The aim of the Gold Certificate is to ensure that you can meet the reading challenges which face all Year 9 students which are to:

Identify features of literary and non-literary texts.

  • explore your own and other’s interpretations.

  • analyse the ways in which writers use language to make meaning.

  • compare styles, ideas and themes of different writers and in different texts.

  • present your ideas, interpretations  and analyses in discussion and in writing.

Gold Certificate Guidelines

  •  To be awarded your Gold Passport certificate you must complete subject specific tasks.

  • Tasks will be explained in class by your subject teacher.

  • It is important you meet the deadlines set by the teacher and clarify what is expected of you if you are unsure.

  • Additional advice can be obtained from Mrs Mason or Mrs Howard-Rigby.

  • A record sheet of your progress will be kept in the Learning Resource Centre.

  • Progress slips which acknowledge your involvement and enthusiasm will be awarded by subject staff and entered into our grand draw!

  • Certificates will be presented in July and state the number of tasks completed.

  • It is important to appreciate the impact that regular reading from a range of sources has on your examination performance.
