The Department

Welcome to St.Gregory’s Modern Foreign Languages Department. Our vision is that excellent teaching leads to effective learning so that pupils are able to maximise their full potential and enjoy the study of a modern foreign language. As a result, pupils recognise the importance of studying a different language and culture.

Lower School

In Year 7, four form groups learn French and two groups learn Spanish. Pupils continue to study this subject until the end of Year 9. At the beginning of Year 9, pupils have the opportunity to learn Spanish before school and from September 07, pupils of Spanish will be able to learn French as an extra-curricular course.

GCSE

At Key Stage 4, current Year 10 pupils study the Modular AQA GCSE course in French/Spanish and from September 07, Year 10 MFL students will follow the Linear course. Pupil’s progress in monitored closely and during the Spring term, revision classes are run after school. During this term pupils also sit a mock speaking exam.
