Today is the last day of our school
year.
We have just celebrated the
retirement Mass for Mr Taylor and Mrs McGann. Mr Taylor
retires today after 38 years of teaching, 29 of which
have been at St. Gregory’s. Mrs McGann retires after 39
years of teaching, 23 of which have been at St.
Gregory’s. We thank them for their many years of service
to education, but Catholic education in particular. Both
are wonderful role models for our young people and we
wish them many happy years of retirement.
A number of staff are moving on and
we wish them well in their new roles. 4 staff are
getting married so we wish them well for the day and for
their future lives.
Yesterday we had the end-of-year
assemblies and for me the most important part was where
we were reconciled with those in our family or school
with whom we had fallen out during the year. We can talk
about being part of a community but we are human and
there will be occasions when we fall out. Being
reconciled – forgiving and being forgiven – is an
essential part of being in relationship with other
people. It is something we need to do every day as Jesus
has reminded us:
‘And when you stand and pray, forgive
anything you may have against anyone, so that your
Father in heaven will forgive the wrongs you have done.’
Mark 11: 25
Many of you will be going away during
the summer, though I’m sure there are many who aren’t.
The recession has brought hardship for many people and
holidays are one of the things that for many have had to
go by the board. There are many schemes around the area
during the summer so check at the Peace Centre,
community centres in your area and the Warrington
Borough Council website for further information.
As we go off on holiday we remember
in prayer Tom Coleridge, a past pupil aged 18, who was
critically injured in Afghanistan last week. He is in
the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham. We also pray
for his parents, sister Katie in y10, and his family and
friends at this difficult time.
Have a wonderful holiday and stay
safe.
