I was out of school on Monday and
Tuesday as part of our transition work with Year 6. On
Monday 44 pupils from St. Joseph’s joined some of our
staff in the Foundry in Widnes for their retreat day.
The next day the same number came from St. Vincent’s. I
know that most of our present Year 7 and 8 will remember
their day there as it is usually great fun!
Moving from primary to secondary is
not easy and we try to do all we can to make the journey
as smooth as possible. One aspect of the day I always
enjoy is meeting the younger brothers, sisters and
cousins. Some are very easy to spot but others are not a
bit like their siblings who are already in our school. I
am sure you will make them all feel welcome when they
come for their day visit in June and arrive in September
as Year 7 pupils. Sacred Heart, St. Benedict’s and St.
Paul of the Cross still have their day to come. St.
Alban’s had theirs last week on the day the Archbishop
was in school here.
We are well into Lent and I would
like to thank you for your generous collections for the
Good Shepherd Fund – the Archdiocesan charity. If anyone
has any ideas or requests for collections please see me
and bring with you a short write-up about the charity.
Some students have nominated charities but I am still
waiting for the write-up.
There will be a raffle before Easter
organised by the School Council. The first prize will be
£10 and I’m sure there’ll be some chocolate as another
prize! 8W are helping the School Council so watch out
for them the week beginning 15 March (for 5 days only!)
The School Council will be having a
joint meeting with the one from Cardinal Newman, our
Federated school, next Thursday and they will share with
you at assemblies the following week how they got on.
Sport Relief is coming up the week
after next so check with the P.E. department as to how
you can get involved.
Have a good weekend.
